About TPR ----------------------- [01] - Up Front: No Tergat in London, No Athens Double for Bekele ----------------------- TERGAT WITHDRAWS FROM LONDON MARATHON... A leg injury forced marathon world record holder Paul Tergat pulled out of next month's London Marathon, several agencies reported today. "I'm really disappointed," the Kenyan told Britain's Press Association. "I wouldn't compete in London unless I am 100%." Tergat is on the start list for Sunday's Lisbon Half-Marathon; there is no word as to whether he pulled out of that race as well. NO OLYMPIC DOUBLE FOR BEKELE... Just a few days after clinching his third consecutive double victory at the world cross country championships, Kenenisa Bekele said he would only contest one event in Athens this summer. "It will be my first Olympics, and I do not have any experience," said the 21-year-old Ethiopian whose attempt at a double win at last year's world championships ended with a gold in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000. "Additionally, we can expect a very hot weather so having all this in mind I will run only one event there. There is no room for a double." Which event he will contest is anyone's guess, including his. Bekele will run the Zatopek Memorial 10,000m event at the Golden Spike IAAF Super Grand Prix in Ostrava, CZE, on June 8, almost certainly his only race over the distance prior to the Olympic Games. Already dubbed as a world record attempt in some news accounts, Bekele discounts the notion. "It is an Olympic year and so the main goal is to be in the best possible shape in Athens and win a gold medal. I´m not thinking about records this year. But you never know, I heard the track is fast and when the weather will be good, we can think about fast times." Bekele said his race for Athens will be based solely on his performances prior to the Games. "I will not decide based on the names which will be running." Bekele hinted that he may attempt a marathon, but not until after the 2008 Olympic Games. After his astounding third double win at the World Cross Country Championships, Kenenisa Bekele found a few hours to relax in Prague, after the announcement that he would compete in the 10,000m at the Golden Spike Super Grand Prix in Ostrava, CZE, on Tuesday, 08-June.
